[APPLICATIONS - 2014-2015]

APPLICATIONS FOR THE CURRENT WEEK ARE REVIEWED FRIDAYS.

UNLESS THERE IS A DELAY... which we'll typically announce. There are no application cycles in Smash! Send in applications whenever you want.
Note: We do not review apps in chronological order, but last-minute applications submitted at the buttcrack of midnight Friday might not get reviewed until the following week, so please be patient.

If you want to make sure no one else apps the character you are thinking of, head on over to the reserves first.

Before you apply or hit "post"...

  • Read our rules. Acceptable Series, FAQ and Premise couldn't hurt either.

  • Take a look at our application guidelines! This outlines what we expect in an application, and gives some inspiration and pointers if you're having trouble!

  • Look at the taken list to make sure the character you want isn't already taken.

  • Copy and use the application form that fits your character, whether they are returning, getting an update, or are brand new.

  • Spell check, spell check, spell check.

  • You may post a link to your application or post it in comment chunks. DW has a maximum character limit of 16,000 per comment, so that's quite generous and you'll probably be able to fit your app in just one or two comments! Here is a handy character count checker to see if that's the case.

  • You may rehash old applications or samples so long as YOU are the one that wrote them. We may ask for a new, more setting-applicable sample, or if we are unclear on the character's voice/personality, however. If you plagiarize, you will be banned.

  • Pokemon are allowed only two per player, and no more than three of the same kind at the same time.

Additional history:

When Zero fell from the remnants of Ragnarok down onto Final Destination City, Dr. Eggman had the city under martial law. Separated from his Cyber-elf Croire and weakened from plummeting through Earth's atmosphere, the legendary reploid was immediately discovered by patrolling Badniks, who swarmed and captured him. Seeing the potential in his combat capabilities, Eggman opted to reprogram Zero for his own purposes - and though his methods were crude, it was effective.

Thankfully, he wasn't under the doctor's control for long. Zero intercepted Knuckles as he was on patrol, and since neither one of them was willing to walk away, a battle ensued that only ended when the reploid was caught off guard by the echidna questioning his true self, and caught a Deep Impact explosion point blank to the chest. Once the attack knocked him offline, Knuckles took Zero with him to see if he could get the reploid fixed - body and mind.

After a shaky diagnostics from IT, Zero spent a good long while on Knuckles' couch with the gaping hole in his torso covered in duct tape.

A long... while...

In the meantime, his wandering Cyber-elf had been trying to find him. Instead of Zero, however, she found Copy X instead, not knowing who he truly was. After a great deal of confliction regarding his old enemy, Copy X volunteered to help Knuckles fix Zero using Croire's power. With her crazy miracle robot magic, he was immediately patched up good as new - but knowing that it was Copy X (posing as the real X, no less) that he had to thank left Zero distinctly uncomfortable and mistrustful. Still, with nowhere else to go, Zero hung around the city on his own for some time, destroying any Badniks he could while trying to figure out what he wanted to do with this newfound life of his. After the huge battle between Seth's shadowbugs and Eggman's army (during which he found himself mostly babysitting a pair of whiny Pokemon trainers), Knuckles suggested Smash Academy as a possible home for Zero.

He mulled on his options. First thing first, however, he wanted to make sure that the humans and reploids of Area 0 had pulled through the crisis. So he left the city and headed for home... only to find he had no idea how to get there. He didn't even have the first clue to start looking.

A lot of aimless wandering happened, but eventually he found himself back in FDC once more. Well... despite the disappointment, there was nothing to be done about it. Might as well see if Knuckles' offer was still good.

Personality Changes:

Not really. His opinion of Copy X has become a lot more conflicted, but other than that, he's still the same stoic robot.

In-Character 1st person sample:

[The video feed turns on. A somewhat familiar face came onscreen, though most would only recognize him as 'that broken robot that Knuckles was keeping on his couch.' Looks like he's fully functional again.]

I'm Zero. Starting now, I'll be on security detail.

[There was a pause. It seemed like he was more or less done with introductions, but something else on his mind kept him from turning off the camera. After a beat, he continued.]

The database tells me that Knuckles is no longer here.

...

There's someone else... There was a blue reploid that called himself X. I need to know what happened to him.

...Thanks. [End transmission.]

In-Character 3rd person sample:

It had been a frustrating few months. One would imagine that finding Neo Arcadia - or at least what remained of it - would've at least been feasible, considering it was the last human stronghold after the Elf Wars. If he at least had a grasp on its general location then it wouldn't be too difficult to trace Area 0 from there. But ever since he headed out on his own, all he got were shrugs and blank stares wherever he went. In the end, Zero simply found himself in Final Destination City again. It was like every road he took eventually led him back to the place. Maybe it was just fate - but he'd never put too much stock into the idea.

Still, it wasn't all bad. There were things he still needed to check up on. First on the list was Knuckles; it'd been a while since he'd seen the echidna last, and the reploid wanted to see how he was doing. To see a friendly face before he headed for a decidedly less friendly confrontation.

Very quickly, however, Zero encountered another obstacle: he didn't actually know which apartment number Knuckles lived in. The building was one he was familiar enough with, he'd taken care to watch over it during Eggman's reign on the city, but hideously ancient security system wasn't cooperating. Not even Croire could give him an answer when she entered its directory to probe for information.

Well, Zero respected Knuckles too much to try breaking and entering the building he lived in - that would've ended in nothing but trouble for him. But maybe he wouldn't mind if the reploid took an alternate way in. Zero already knew which storey he was on, and which side of the city he faced. All he had to do was to make it onto the balcony.

Obviously, even a machine as advanced as him couldn't make it up there in a single bound. Instead, he dash jumped as high as he could parallel to the building, and as he met the wall, he dug his fingers into the stucco and kicked off to scale higher and higher. It didn't take long for him to wall jump up to the apartment and land expertly on the balcony floor. Feeling his mission nearing completion, Zero peered through the sliding glass door--

...Hm. That wasn't Knuckles.

To the audience of startled faces who had clearly moved into the flat during his time away, the reploid stared blankly back.

"...Excuse me."

To the sound of horrified gasps, he jumped right back off the balcony. Well, that had been fruitless. Maybe the school would have more data on Knuckles's whereabouts.
